Question Summary: Should we keep fast and pray Isha according to 15 degrees or 18 degrees? Question Detail:
I recently moved a about 9 days back here in Columbia, MO. Our masjid is predominantly Arabs/Middle Eastern brothers, we have another masjid after 28 miles after this one so practically no masjid after this. However I personally mostly follow Hanafi maslak from back home in India, but do not mind other maslaks in some situations once in a while. The Questions are all related: The 1st Ramadan Ishan happened at 10.15 PM (10.04 Ishan time starts) as per 15 degree time I believe, and by the time the 8 rakat taravee and witr ended it was 11.45 PM. And the seher time for 15 degrees was 4.10 AM (6th June). Is it permissible to follow Ishan and Seher times as per 15 degrees, or none is allowed as per my location/situation or only Ishan/seher is allowed ?Can you give me a correct source of namaz timings for 18 degree and 15 degree timings online for Columbia,Missouri location ? Would highly appreciate if you could answer me as soon as possible, because I need to follow it for Ramzan, since it is already 1st Ramazan. Jazak Allah Khair
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. 1. Ideally, one would pray Isha at 18 degrees since it would remove any doubts. However, given your situation (the late time of Isha in the summer), it is permissible and more accommodating [awsa'] to offer Isha according to 15 degrees. [i] If you would like further details on the above, please see the Darul Iftaa's research (Ask Imam # 15287) at the following link: http://askimam.org/public/question_detail/15287 2. Regarding the pre-dawn meal [suhur] and Fajr salah: The most cautious view would be to adopt 18 degrees as the suhur's ending time and 15 degrees for praying Fajr. [ii][iii] 3. You can calculate the timing at the following websites: a.) Islamic Finder: http://www.islamicfinder.org/ [Under “Prayer Times”, you will see your city, click on it and it will take you to a page where you can change the calculation method.] b.)
