Question Summary:
Disrupting ones habit of reading Quran for an Islamic Talk programme.

Question Detail:

ASA Mufti Sahab,
I wanted to ask you that if I decide to make a tarteeb of reading quran everyday between maghrib and isha at the local masjid, then if a jamaat has qayam at that masjid and has a talk after maghrib, would it be ok for me to continue reading quran or should I be sitting with the jamaat to listen to the talk? Thank you.

Answer :

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
It is pleasing to note that you have made a habit of sitting after Maghrib Salah to read Qur’an.
There is immense blessing and spirituality in secluding oneself to recite the glorious speech of Allah Ta’ala. No doubt, once a person tastes the particular sweetness of reciting Qur’an, it is hard to match it with other ibadāt.
That being said, sitting in a bayān or an Islamic talk is also an act of virtue, with its own particular rewards. The different forms of nafal ibadāt in Islam are like different types of chocolates. Each one has its own flare and its own taste. Moreover, just like with different chocolates every person has his personal preference of taste; in ibadāt too, every individual will incline to those forms which satiate his soul.
Since you have a tarteeb of reciting Qur’an, we would not advise you to leave out Qur’an recitation. However, a more suitable and spiritually uplifting way would be sit in the talk, and recite your desired portion of Qur’an after Eshā’ salah. This way you will satisfy your soul from both types of ibadāt.
However, should you choose to stick to your tarteeb and recite Qur’an, it is permissible for you to do so as well. In this case we advise you to seclude yourself to a corner in masjid, so that others who are sitting for bayān are not disturbed, and so that you are not disturbed by them as well.
We pray that Allah increases your love and desire for Qur’an, and all other forms of deeni ibadāt. Ameen.
And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best
