Question Summary: I would highly appreciate if you could tell the importance and “WHY” are we not supposed to wrap the baby in “yellow clothe” but in “white.” ? Question Detail:
Assalam O Alaikum Respected Imam,
I will be father in July inshAllah. I was reading online that Prophet Mohammad salallahu alayhi wasallam had advised Fatima radiallahu anha to not wrap the new born (Al-Hassan) in a Yellow Clothe. I tried searching for the reason and I was unable to trace it.
I would highly appreciate if you could tell the importance and "WHY" are we not supposed to wrap the baby in "yellow clothe" but in "white." Are other colors acceptable apart from White? I would highly appreciate your response. Thanking you in advance.
Answer :
Assalāmu `alaikum Warahmatullāhi Wabrakatuh,
We could not locate the incident referred to in your query. A person should be vigilant as to what he reads on the net as there is much unauthentic information available on the net.
It is makrūh (disliked) for males to wear yellow as Nabi (Sallalāhu `alayhi wa sallam) mentioned this to be the clothing of the non-believers. (Muslim 2077)
Sayyidunā `Amr ibnul `Ās (radiyallāhu ta`ālā `anhu) reports that the Messenger of Allāh (sallallāhu `alayhi wasallam) saw me wearing two pieces of cloth dyed in safflower. He said: Verily this is the clothes of the non-believers, therefore do not wear it. (Muslim 2077)
It is makrūh for males to wear clothing dyed in safflower. It has been narrated on the authority of Ibn `Umar (radiyallāhu ta`ālā `anhu) that the Messenger of Allāh (sallallāhu `alayhi wasallam) prohibited me from wearing clothes dyed in safflower. He said: Abstain from red as it is the attire of shaytān. It is mentioned in al-muntaqā that Imām Abu hanīfah (May Allāh be pleased with him) disliked males wearing clothes dyed in safflower or wars (Yemenite dye-yielding plant) or in saffron due to the traditions narrated regarded them.
