Parents are careless about Salaah Question Detail:
I am looking for advice. I am a college student who works at my parents restaurant part time. My parents don't pray prayers on time and wait till they get home to make it up. I tell my mom this is wrong but she comes up with excuses such as Allah doesn't over burden us or there's nowhere clean to pray . Since I work for them they wont let me pray at work so I have to make them up at home. I know this is a major sin but I don't know what to do. I told my parents I was going to leave school and find another job to let me pray but they threaten to kick me out if i leave school . Please tell me what I should do.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Brother in Islam,
There are two aspects to your query. One, your parents’ attitude towards prayer. Two, your dilemma of not being able to pray.
As far your parents’ attitude towards prayer, we advise the following:
Find a senior member of the family or community whom they respect that can address the situation.
Looking at the appropriate time, try to start a routine of reading Ahadith on the virtues of various deeds. Do not pick a time when you or your parents are tired or busy with other work. Weekends may be a good time to start. You may read from Fadāilul A‘māl of Shaykh Zakariyya Kandhlawi translated into English. Start with reading virtues of deeds other than prayer. Do not build an environment of pointing fingers at one another’s shortcomings.
Continuously make dua for yourself, your parents, and the entire Ummah.
For the time being, continue praying at work without letting your parents know. If you get a short break in the middle, use the time for praying. You may also consider rescheduling your times to the morning, if possible, so that no prayer times will come in between. Or, you may start work after Maghrib, and pray Isha and Witr once you return home.
