Question Summary:
Outlawed Halal Food

Question Detail:

Someone I know regularly purchases and consumes a food product that is halal for consumption in principle, but it is illegal to obtain where he lives. Thus, he resorts to illegal means when both purchasing the item and receiving it. There seems to be a few issues in play here.I know it is haram to break the laws of the land one lives in. I also know that a single morsel of haram consumption renders one's deeds unaccepted for a period of 40 days.Does the fact that he obtains this item illegally (per the laws of the land he lives in) render it haram for consumption and thus, render his deeds unaccepted for 40 days?

Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
We require to know which product you are referring to before we can comment. Also, which country does this pertain to? Why is it not allowed by the government? Explain in detail.
