Question Summary: Non-Alcoholic Beer for medical purposes Question Detail:
I have a question regarding 'Non-Alcoholic Beer', which is good for kidney problems and urination. I have been living in Canada and here non-alcoholic beer is NOT completely zero percent alcohol but it says Non-alcoholic beer with less than 0.5% percent. Since, the quantity is so small that it won't affect consciousness and people will be in their senses. Can this Non-Alcoholic Beer be used for health/medical purpose? Will be awaiting your response. A Muslim Brother.
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. From the outset, it should be understood that Shari’ah is averse to beers/wines etc. As you have mentioned, ‘non-alcoholic beers’ are not entirely free from alcohol. As such, it is impermissible to consume such beverages. According to research, it is still possible for some people to get intoxicated with non-alcoholic beers. Consider the following fact: “Amazingly, it is still possible for some people to get drunk from non-alcoholic beer. At least 15 states in the U.S. do not allow the sale of non-alcoholic beer to minors under the age of 21, while other states set the sale restriction for minors under the age of 18. It's not surprising, given what happens when minors get a hold of non-alcoholic beer.”[1] As far as using such beers for health/medical purposes is concerned, kindly explain what the health related issue is. Who has advised to use the drink as a medical cure? Also, is there an alternative cure to the health related issue?
