Question Summary:
My mother did not want me to keep a beard after her death should I keep a beard?

Question Detail:

My question is, my mother passed away 5 months back, Iam only son to her and I am married and I have a 4 year old kid. My confusion is that my mother never liked me to keep a beard and I obeyed her. Now that she is no more do I continue to shave my beard or is it ok to leave it. Which of my act will be better in the eyes of Allah Subhanawa Taala.
 

Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Brother in Islam,
We are sorry to hear that your mother passed away. My Allah Taala grant her Jannah and give you and your family member’s patience. Ameen.
In principle, it is compulsory (wajib) for one to keep a beard and it is haram to cutshave the beard. [1]
It is mentioned in a hadith:
عَنْ عَلِيٍّ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: لَا طَاعَةَ لِمَخْلُوقٍ فِي مَعْصِيَةِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: “There is no obedience for the creation in the disobedience of Allah Taala.” (Musnad Ahmed-1095)
From the above hadith it is clear that if your parents or any other person want you to do anything that contradicts the commands of Allah Taala, it will not be permissible for you to do that impermissible deed even if they get hurt. You will not be sinful for hurting them, as you are fulfilling the command of Allah Taala.
Therefore, we advise you to immediately start keeping a beard and make abundant istighfar for shaving your beard in the past.
