Question Summary: Must a pregnant woman fast in Ramadān? Why do some masjids turn the lights off for Taraweeh? Question Detail:
1.What is the condition of Ramzan fasting on a woman who is 2 months pregnant? 2.In few masjids,I have observed that the lights are switched off for offering Taraweeh prayers. Is this act sunnah/mustahab or it is merely to gain concentration?
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullāhi wa barakātuh.
A pregnant woman must keep the fasts of Ramadān unless there are health risks to her or her child. If there are health risks, she is exempt from fasting and will make qadā’ of the missed days after Ramadān.[1]
It is not necessary to have the lights on or switched off during Tarāwīh. The people of a masjid may adopt whatever is convenient and suitable for them.
