In the name of Allāh, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Assalāmu ῾alaykum wa Rahmatullāhi Wabarakātuh Two currencies of the same country may be sold or exchanged for each other, but both amounts will have to be equal. They cannot be sold at a rate different from their face value. Any excess on either side would be Riba (interest).1 2 3 One exception to the rule is for those notes or coins that have historical or sentimental value. These may be exchanged for a higher amount.4 5 And Allāh Ta῾āla Knows Best
