My name is Amar Salaam. I understand that one of the names of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) is Al- Salaam. Will I have to change my name?
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu `alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. The word Salaam is one of the names of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) which means “peace/security”. In principle, it is permissible to keep any name of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) which is not exclusive to Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala). It is permissible to keep the name Amr Salaam since the word “Salaam” as it is, is not exclusive to Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala). And Allah knows best. Mawlana Ismail Desai,
