I was not able to do aqeeqa of my children, how can I do it now? Question Detail:
Assalam Alaikum, I am planning to perform aqeeqa for both my children aged 5 and 3 years. Situations did not allow me to perform it in the initial 7 days of their birth as this is the sunnah. I wish to know the best way to perform aqeeqa for my children now. I was told that as I missed the sunnah, it doesn't really matter that I arrange a function. The best I should do is to divide the meat into three and distribute it accordingly like we do the qurbani. Please advise. Jazakallah Khair.

It would be permissible for you to do the aqeeqa now although it is better to do it on the seventh day. Anyone can take part in the food.

(سُئِلَ) فِي الْعَقِيقَةِ كَيْفَ حُكْمُهَا وَكَيْفُ تُفْعَلُ؟
(الْجَوَابُ) : قَالَ فِي السِّرَاجِ الْوَهَّاجِ فِي كِتَابِ الْأُضْحِيَّةِ مَا نَصُّهُ مَسْأَلَةٌ الْعَقِيقَةُ تَطَوُّعٌ إنْ شَاءَ فَعَلَهَا، وَإِنْ شَاءَ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ وَهِيَ أَنْ يَذْبَحَ شَاةً إذَا أَتَى عَلَى الْوَلَدِ سَبْعَةُ أَيَّامٍ وَعِنْدَ الشَّافِعِيِّ سِتَّةٌ ثُمَّ إذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَعُقَّ عَنْ الْوَلَدِ، فَإِنَّهُ يَذْبَحُ عَنْ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَيْنِ وَعَنْ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةً؛ لِأَنَّهُ إنَّمَا شُرِعَ لِلسُّرُورِ بِالْمَوْلُودِ وَهُوَ بِالْغُلَامِ أَكْثَرُ وَلَوْ ذَبَحَ عَنْ الْغُلَامِ شَاةً وَعَنْ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةً جَازَ؛ لِأَنَّ «النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَقَّ عَنْ الْحَسَنِ وَالْحُسَيْنِ كَبْشًا كَبْشًا» وَلَا يَكُونُ فِيهِ دُونَ الْجَذَعِ مِنْ الضَّأْنِ وَالثَّنِيِّ مِنْ الْمَعْزِ وَلَا يَكُونُ فِيهِ إلَّا السَّلِيمَةُ مِنْ الْعُيُوبِ؛ لِأَنَّهُ إرَاقَةُ دَمٍ شَرْعًا كَالْأُضْحِيَّةِ وَلَوْ قَدَّمَ يَوْمَ الذَّبْحِ قَبْلَ يَوْمِ السَّابِعِ أَوْ أَخَّرَهُ عَنْهُ جَازَ إلَّا أَنَّ يَوْمَ السَّابِعِ أَفْضَلُ وَالْمُسْتَحَبُّ أَنْ يَفْصِلَ لَحْمَهَا وَلَا يَكْسِرَ عَظْمَهَا تَفَاؤُلًا بِسَلَامَةِ أَعْضَاءِ الْوَلَدِ وَيَأْكُلُ وَيُطْعِمُ وَيَتَصَدَّقُ. اهـ. وَفِي فُصُولِ الْعَلَّامِيِّ الْمُسَمَّى بِالْكَرَاهِيَةِ وَالِاسْتِحْسَانِ فِي الْفَصْلِ 36 وَيَعُقُّ عَنْهُ فِي الْيَوْمِ السَّابِعِ مِنْ الْوِلَادَةِ قَالَ - عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ - «الْعَقِيقَةُ حَقٌّ عَنْ الْغُلَامِ شَاتَانِ وَعَنْ الْجَارِيَةِ شَاةٌ» وَقَدْ «عَقَّ عَنْ نَفْسِهِ - عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ - بَعْدَمَا بُعِثَ نَبِيًّا» .
وَيَقُولُ عِنْدَ ذَبْحِهِ اللَّهُمَّ هَذِهِ عَقِيقَةُ ابْنِي، فَإِنَّ دَمَهَا بِدَمِهِ وَلَحْمَهَا بِلَحْمِهِ وَعَظْمَهَا بِعَظْمِهِ وَجِلْدَهَا بِجِلْدِهِ وَشَعْرَهَا بِشَعْرِهِ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا فِدَاءً لِابْنِي مِنْ النَّارِ وَلَا يُكْسَرُ لِلْعَقِيقَةِ عَظْمٌ وَيُعْطِي الْقَابِلَةَ فَخْذَهَا وَيَطْبُخُ جَمِيعَهَا ثُمَّ يَتَصَدَّقُ بِهَا وَلَا يُكْسَرُ مِنْهَا شَيْءٌ. اهـ. ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ الْمُؤَلِّفُ عِبَارَةَ شَرْحِ الشِّرْعَةِ بِطُولِهَا وَهِيَ فِي مَعْنَى مَا مَرَّ ثُمَّ قَالَ وَرَأَيْتُ فِي شَرْحِ الْعُبَابِ لِلْعَلَّامَةِ ابْنِ حَجَرٍ الشَّافِعِيِّ وَهُوَ كِتَابٌ مُعْتَبَرٌ عِنْدَهُمْ مَا مُلَخَّصُهُ بِاخْتِصَارٍ وَاقْتِصَارٍ عَلَى بَعْضِ الْمَقْصُودِ مَعَ التَّصَرُّفِ فِي بَعْضِ الْعِبَارَةِ وَذَكَرْتُهُ هُنَا؛ لِأَنَّهُ مِنْ فَضَائِلِ الْأَعْمَالِ قَالَ وَوَقْتُهَا بَعْدَ تَمَامِ الْوِلَادَةِ إلَى الْبُلُوغِ فَلَا يُجْزِئُ قَبْلَهَا وَذَبْحُهَا فِي الْيَوْمِ السَّابِعِ يُسَنُّ وَالْأَوْلَى فِعْلُهَا صَدْرَ النَّهَارِ عِنْدَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ بَعْدَ وَقْتِ الْكَرَاهَةِ لِلتَّبَرُّكِ بِالْبُكُورِ وَلَيْسَ مِنْ السَّبْعَةِ يَوْمُ الْوِلَادَةِ خِلَافًا لِلشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَوْ وُلِدَ لَيْلًا حُسِبَتْ الذَّبِيحَةُ مِنْ صَبِيحَتِهِ وَيُسَنُّ أَنْ يَعُقَّ عَنْ نَفْسِهِ مَنْ بَلَغَ وَلَمْ يُعَقَّ عَنْهُ وَحُكْمُهَا كَأَحْكَامِ الْأُضْحِيَّةِ إلَّا أَنَّهُ يُسَنُّ طَبْخُهَا وَبِحُلْوٍ تَفَاؤُلًا بِحَلَاوَةِ أَخْلَاقِ الْمَوْلُودِ وَحَمْلُ لَحْمِهَا مَطْبُوخًا لِلْفُقَرَاءِ وَلَا بَأْسَ بِنَدْبِهِمْ إلَيْهَا وَتُعْطَى الْقَابِلَةُ رِجْلَهَا لِأَمْرِهِ - عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ - فَاطِمَةَ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا - بِإِعْطَائِهَا إيَّاهَا وَالْيُمْنَى أَوْلَى وَلَا يُكْسَرُ عَظْمُهَا، وَإِنْ كُسِرَ لَمْ يُكْرَهْ. العقود الدرية في تنقيح الفتاوى الحامدية ( ص 212 / ج 2 / دار المعرفة )

We make Du’aa you are well. The Darul Iftaa was established in the year 2011. The fundamental objective of the Darul Iftaa is to train Ulama from various parts of the world to become Muftis. In this world of scientific calculations and technological advancements, economic confusion and political disarray, a Mufti is trained to understand and analyze current situations and provide leadership for the Ummah. There is a vacuum of competent Muftis in various parts of the world. The Ummah lacks leadership. There are currently twelve students who are studying at the Darul Iftaa. There are many Ulama from many parts of the world who have applied to study the Iftaa course. They could not be accommodated due to lack of adequate facilities. The Darul Iftaa has therefore embarked on an expansion project.
