Question Detail:

I read your answere here http://askimam.org/fatwa/fatwa.php?askid=524387d2704852bcba8a84658f51b94a ----and, http://askimam.org/fatwa/fatwa.php?askid=24f091e7e32bc29aa732eb9402a742b5 Here u told that one rakaat wuitre is not valid. it's ok but why everybody wants to know about one rakaat wuitre.ofcourse there is something unknown here.u know better than me ,but let me explain what i know - one day i was listening islamic question/ans tv program. some one asked the same question ,then the alem sayed that wuitre namaaz is minimum 3 rakaat 5,7 rakat and maximum 12rakat,when Mohammad (sm) prayed 3 raakat he did not sit the second rakat.he finished 3 rakat with one, last one sit. when he have to some emargency work and for this reason,he prayed the wuitre 2 rakat and finished, after work he pray another one rakat. the alem says that WHEN HE(sm) SIT 2nd RAKAT,FINISHED NAMAZ WITH SALAM. it is powerfull hadis based on bukhari.Alem also added, sitting 2nd rakaat is allowed ,but it is in normal hadis and we cannot disagree with any hadis. IF ANY MISTAKE, ALLAH PLEASE FORGIVE ME. Now i am praying three rakat wuitre without sitting 2nd rakaat ,Is it ok ?please confirm me.

Assalāmu ῾alaykum wa Rahmatullāhi Wabarakātuh

It appears that your confusion of the number of Rakaats stem from your non-Taqleed (not following the rulings of one particular Imaam of a Mazhab).
Taqleed means to accept the view of an Imam on issues of Islamic law without seeking to know the proofs of those issues.
The Fuqaha had a deep understanding in all the faculties of Shari`a.
Their rulings were derived from the Quraan and Hadith directly.
We have to have bring complete trust in their knowledge and we do not have the right to question their rulings.

We are bound to accept the explanation that has been given to us by the Imam of our   Mazhab Imaam Abu Haneefa رحمه الله.
Kindly find attached article on Taqleed.
In reference to your question, it is not permissible to perform; one rakaat of Witr neither is it permissible to perform three rakaat of Witr with two salaams.
Witr is Waajib and is three Rakaat as follows:
The first two Rak`aats are performed as normal and after completing the Tashahhud of the second Rak`aat, stand for the third Rakaat.
Then recite “Bismilah” then “Alhamdu” and a “Soora” then say “Allahu Akbar” while raising the hands to the ear lobes and then folding them below the navel. Thereafter recite the Du`aa of Qunoot. (Softly) and proceed to Ruku complete the Salaah.
