Can one have a tummy tuck due to excess hanging skin? Question Detail:
Assalamualaykum. I am an adult male who has lost alot of weight over the past few years. Unfortunately following the weight loss I have been left with excess skin. This is causing me alot psychological distress as having worked so hard to lose the weight it has left me looking worse than before. It is causing me great embarrassment to the point where I do not want to get married as I ashamed of the hanging skin. I have consulted several doctors and the only solution to remove the skin is through having a tummy tuck. The doctors also advised I have Gynecomastia therefore a breast reduction surgery would also be required. Please can you advise if these procedures are allowed in islam to correct the deformities I have?

As-salaamu `alaykum wa-ramatullahi wa-barakatuh.
Abdominoplasty or "tummy tuck" is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to make the abdomen thinner and more firm. The surgery involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall. This type of surgery is usually sought by patients with loose or sagging tissues after pregnancy or major weight loss.[1]
Gynecomastia is an endocrine system disorder in which a noncancerous increase in the size of male breast tissue occurs. Psychological distress may occur.[2]
It is permissible for a person who suffers from Gynecomastia to get it treated by a breast reduction surgery. Similarly, it is permissible for one to undergo a tummy tuck in order to get rid of his extra hanging skin.[3]

و في الفتاوي إذا أراد أن يقطع إصبعا زائدة أو شيئا آخر قال أبو نصر رحمه الله تعالى إن كان الغالب على من قطع مثل ذلك الهلاك فإنه لا يفعل لأنه تعريض النفس للهلاك * و إن كان الغالب هو النجاة فهو في سعة من ذلك
