Question Summary: How many Talaaq’s take place? Question Detail:
A husband and wife were arguing and fighting. The husband has a bad temper. The fight was very bad. The husband said the following words “I divorce you. Talaq, Talaq” Is this counted as one or two talaqs according to Shariah? What is the ruling regarding this? I saw some Quran verses which state that a woman can live in her husbands’ house after one or two talaqs. How does this tie in with the above question? How is the one or two talaqs revoked and what is the procedure to be followed for reconciliation?
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. Divorce has been stated three times, not two times as you assume. Once in English; I divorce you. And two in Arabic; Talaq, Talaq. If the husband has any explanation for this, you may forward it to us for our consideration.
