Is Namaz behimd a Barelwi Imam allowed? If not do we have to make up all the qadha's? I hav a question that i need calarifying. Can we pray namaz behind a barelvi imam who has strong beliefs regarding ilm e gayb/hazir nazir/noori bashr/mukhtar e qul and does other biddaats etc? What is the ruling for some one who has been praying majority of his namaz's behind such a barelvi imam (not knowing namaz behind a imam with such beliefs is not permissible?) Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. Salāh is a fundamental part of Islām and forms the cornerstone of our basic practices as a Muslim. We should therefore exercise extreme precaution in our Salāh and behind whom we perform our Salāh. According to the explanation given in your query regarding the Imām in reference, it appears the Imām is an extreme Bid’atī (Gāli).[1] While it is Makrūh to perform Salāh behind any Bid’atī, it is even more reprehensible to perform Salāh behind a Bid’atī with extreme views, as there is fear some views may lead to Kufr.[2] We therefore advise you not to perform Salāh behind such an Imām.
[2] A Barelwi who believes in Noor al-bashr[2] may be a Mubtadī (an innovator) whereas another Barelwi believing in the same belief might be a Kāfir. It is all due to the actual creed that is being negated.
