Question Summary: Is marijuana haram? Question Detail:
Is marijuana haram?, and before this is answered, I would just like you to consider that this substance is not like any other substances on earth. There has been no deaths whatsoever while under the influence of marijuana. I know that other things like alcohol etc are haram because your brain is intoxicated and you do things that are haram while under the influence, like get into a fight or start to curse at someone for no reason. But marijuana is not like that no one has ever been reported violent or considered a threat while they were high. And I aslo know that all things on earth today were put here as a test from Allah S.W.T. But why would Allah S.W.T put something on earth that is so beneficial to people with illnesses only as a test. In the Quran it does not say marijuana is haram directly. I think that this substance is misunderstand by the world and also by the islamic community.
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. You do acknowledge that marijuana makes one feel high. The feeling of high itself is the effect of the intoxication. You also acknowledge that alcohol is prohibited because your brain is intoxicated. Therefore since marijuana has the effect of intoxication, it is prohibited like other intoxicants. All intoxications have inherent harm including marijuana. Hereunder are some harms of marijuana: Distorted sense of time Paranoia Magical or "random" thinking Short-term memory loss Anxiety and depression[1] You may refer to the following links for further read on this[2].
