Question Summary:
Is Jealousy in Islam accepted?

Question Detail:

Question:
Assalam Alaikum. I'm a revert Muslim. I was brought up in a city where no Muslims lived. At the age of 18 I happened to continue my studies at muslim school in a different city. I started my research on Islam and the first word which inspired me was " In Sha Allah". With Allah's mercy,my faith on him increased day by day and I decided this is the religion I want to follow and accepted Islam secretly. It's been 8 years since I got to know my creator and due to various family issues and situations I'm unable to practice Islam. But my faith on Allah never shook or reduced. However I lost hope halfway through and lead my life. My merciful Almighty revived my beliefs through his slave's salah and other behaviors. I tried to learn Arabic and we for several classes but never succeeded due to situations.I can't read Arabic. I learnt Islam through lectures on YouTube and other sources. This is a very short story of my journey in Islam. Ever since I accepted Islam I have never done any shirk.one thing I'm certain about is, I will not do any shirk till I die and I will never worship anyone but Allah. My question is in case if I don't get a chance to practice Islam and lead my life the way I'm currently leading, what will happen to me if I die? Second question I have is about born Muslims. I know that Allah will never do injustice, still when I think how lucky they are, I really get jealous and angry. Even though I know revert Muslims sins are forgiven at the time they accept Islam.Knowing everything when I think about the struggle I have to go through I feel jealous. How can I overcome this.Am I committing sin by getting jealous and angry for this reason.?

Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Its pleasing to note that you accepted Islam at the age of 18 despite being born in a non-Muslim home and living in a non-Muslim environment and at an age when youth of your age are attracted to all forms of immoralities. Your accepting Islam despite all the odds is a clear bounty of Allah.

You are fortunate that Allah choose you in midst of Kufr and blessed you with Iman. May Allah keep you steadfast on Iman, Ameen.

You enquire about what would happen to you if you don’t get a chance to practice on Islam. Brother, Allah says[1]:

لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا
Translation: Allah does not place on a soul a responsibility (duty) except what is within its capability.
Allah blessed you with Islam to practice on Islam. Allah will never obligate you with something you cannot do.
You did not explain to us why you would not have a chance to practice in Islam and what are your circumstances.
Brother, Allah blessed you with Islam. Allah will make it possible for you to practice on Islam. You should endeavor to practice on Islam to the best of your ability. The basic practice of Islam is to perform Salah. If you can go to the Musjid, do so. If you cannot go to the Musjid, then perform Salah in the privacy of your room. As you grow up and have an independent life, you will be free and independent to practice on Islam as you will. You may face opposition from family and friends. You will have to deal with that with wisdom and diplomacy.
The general lives of the Sahabah were similar. They accepted Islam in the midst of Kufr and faced much opposition from their family and friends. They were steadfast and endured the difficulties. Turn to Allah with Dua and patience, Allah says[2]:
يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ
Translation: Oh you who have Imaan! Seek help (from Allah) by means of Sabr (patience) and Salah. Verily Allah is with those who exercise Sabr (patience).

You also enquire about being jealous on born Muslims. That is not jealousy. It is envy which is permissible.
The reality is we are envious of you as you are a manifestation of Allah’s special favour. He chose to bless you with Iman despite the odds, you require endeavor and sacrifice. It is for that reason you will be double rewarded for every good deed you do.
Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam said[3]:
قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " ثلاثة لهم أجران: رجل من أهل الكتاب، آمن بنبيه وآمن بمحمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، والعبد المملوك إذا أدى حق الله وحق مواليه، ورجل كانت عنده أمة فأدبها فأحسن تأديبها، وعلمها فأحسن تعليمها، ثم أعتقها فتزوجها فله أجران
Translation: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Three persons will receive a double reward: a man from the people of the Book who believes in his prophet and believes in Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam), a servant owned by his master who fulfills the rights of Allah and his master, and a man who owns a servant girl and he mentors her, teaches her beautiful manners, and educates her in the best way, then he emancipates her and marries her. These will have a double reward.”
