Question Summary: Is it true that we don’t get reward for wearing what the prophet would wear? Question Detail:
I HAD ASKED THE FOLLWING QUESTION TO ONE WEBSITE AND THEY GIVEN THE FOLLWING ANSER Q.AMONG THESE WHAT WAS PROPHET MOHAMMED'S (MAY ALLAH PEACE BE UPON HIM)SUNNATH DRESSINGKANDOORA(NORMALLY ARABIC WEARS,BUT NOT LENGTHY)KURTHA PYJAAMA(NORMALLY PAKISTANIS AND INDIAN WEARS)NORMAL SHIRT AND LUNGI/PYJAMAAPLEASE GUIDE ME In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate:There is no Sunnah with regards to dress. The Prophet peace and blessings be upon him used to wear the clothes of his people, the Arabs of Hijaz, and would occasionally wear clothes gifted to him from other regions such as Yemen. For this reason the scholars agree that it is not Sunnah to wear specific clothes; rather it is a requirement to wear clothes that fulfill certain criteria, namely:1. They cover the 'awra.2. They do not outline the private parts due to being tight.3. They are not transparent such that one can see the 'awra underneath.4. They are not clothes that are worn to display extravagant wealth.Any clothes that fulfill these criteria are considered to fulfill the Sunnah requirements of clothing, whether they are the clothes of the Arabs today, or the clothes worn by Pakistanis or Indians, or any other clothes for that matter.Having said that, the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him, used to wear a rida' (cloak) and wizar (loincloth) most of the time, similar to the clothing worn in Ihram, and would on occasion wear a qamees, which is a long shirt to below the knees with buttons at the neckline and loose sleeves. He would also sometimes wear a cloak he had received from Yemen. He,peace and blessing be upon him, would always cover his head if he left his house, usually with a turban. And Allah knows best. ITS TRUE THAT WE DONT GET REWARD OF A SUNNAH FOR WEARING WHAT PROPHETS USED TO WEAR? PLEASE GUIDE ME BARAKA ALLAH FEEKUM
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. The statement that there is no Sunnah clothing is incorrect. The attached article http://www.askimam.org/public/question_detail/34459 clearly explains Sunnah clothing. To emulate the Sunnah of Rasulullah صلي الله عليه وسلم is an integral part of Deen. Say (O Muhammad SAW to mankind): “If you (really) love Allah then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic Monotheism, follow the Quran and the Sunnah), Allah will love you and forgive you of your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [1] [Surah Aali-Imran: 31] If a person wants the closeness of Allah, he has to follow the Sunnah. عن العرباض بن سارية ، قال : صلى لنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم صلاة الصبح ، ثم أقبل علينا فوعظنا موعظة وجلت منها القلوب وذرفت منها العيون ، فقلنا : يا رسول الله كأنها موعظة مودع فأوصنا ، قال : " أوصيكم بتقوى الله ، والسمع والطاعة وإن أمر عليكم عبد حبشي ، فإنه من يعش منكم فسيرى اختلافا كثيرا ، فعليكم بسنتي ، وسنة الخلفاء الراشدين المهديين عضوا عليها بالنواجذ ، وإياكم ومحدثات الأمور ، فإن كل بدعة ضلالة 'Irbad bin Sariyah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: One day the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) delivered us a very eloquent Khutbah on account of which the hearts were frightened and the eyes shed tears. A man said: "O Prophet of Allah, this is as if it were a parting advice. So advise us". He (ﷺ) said, "I admonish you to fear Allah, to listen and obey even if an Abyssinian slave is appointed as your leader. Because whosoever among you shall live after me, will see much discord. So hold fast to my Sunnah and the examples of the Rightly- Guided Caliphs who will come after me. Adhere to them and hold to it fast. Beware of new things (in Deen) because every Bid'ah is a misguidance". [Abu Dawood and At- Tirmithi].
