Is it permissible to wear a burqa` of any color?

Question Detail:

 One of the sheyk told my husband that it is preferable that women not wear black burqa in US. His point is, the main purpose of burqa is not to attract attention and wearing black actually gets a lot of attention . I used to wear a very long round burqa. I looked like a very old lady by wearing it , thus I wore it. But after the advice of sheikh my husband bought me a grey burqa with a grey dupatta on it.
It's not tight fitting but one can make out that u r young from outside. I wear a black naqab on it & it covers my chest also. But I feel I am sinning wearing this colored burqa as it shows that I am young. The other day we were shopping n I saw a woman wearing complete black burqa n immediately I saw another man gazing at her with full hatred (he was a Mexican I think) that caught me n my husband's eyes n from that day my husband is firm on his decision that m not going to wear black completely. Pls advise me as what can I do?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.  
In principle, as long as the burqa` is covering a woman’s full body (i.e. the satr in front of non-Mahram men) and does not expose her physique, it is permissible to wear a burqa` of any color.[1] However, it is important to make sure that the cloth is not such that it openly attracts the eyes of non-Mahram men.[2]
