I would like to inquire the following: Is it permissible to read nafl salah on behalf of one's deceased father? So that the father may recieve that reward/blessing.
Also, what are some other acts one can do on behalf of his deceased parent?

Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is permissible to transfer the reward of nafl ŝalāh to one’s deceased father.[1]
The following are a few examples of actions the reward of which may be transferred to his/her father:[2]

  • Ŝalāh
  • Fasting
  • Charity
  • Recitation of Qurān
  • Dhikr
  • Ĥajj
  • Udĥiyyah (sacrificing)
  • And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best

     فإذا جعل شخص ثواب ما عمله من ذلك لآخر يصل إليه و ينتفع به حيا كان المهدي إليه أو ميتا (البناية ج-٧ ص-٣٩٤،المكتبة الحقانية)
