Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salamu’alaykum wa-rahmatullahi wa-barakatuh.
There is an academic debate on the concept of contagious diseases being contagious by itself. It is our belief that everything happens with the will of Allah Ta’ala including the spread of contagious disease. However, there is no debate on the contagious diseases spreading through means and association. That is, one animal may get affected with the disease and sickness of another animal due to being in one stable. Again, it is our belief that sickness through association and means is ultimately with the will of Allah Ta’ala. Almighty Allah has put effect in the means in this world. With regards to the question in the enquiry, if the animal is suffering and a contagious sickness is detected, then we advise to separate that animal from other animals. This will obviously require some sacrifice, which is an act of virtue and great reward. As such, it will not be permissible to put down an animal based on the fear of its sickness being contagious. Vol.1 Pg.214-217 A herbivore animal is an animal anatomically and physiologically adapted to plant material. These animals have an all plant diet and have characteristics that are special to obtain plant material.[i] The urine of a herbivore animal is termed as najasat-e- khafeefah (lower form of impurity) in Islam. In principle, if najasat-e-khafeefah (lower form of impurity) soils one clothing to the extent of one quarter on any specific portion of the clothing, for example, the sleeve or collar etc, then such a person’s Salah will be invalid. If the urine soils less than a quarter of any portion of the clothing, then Salah will be valid. If the soiled portion cannot be washed due to circumstances, then the Salah will not be makrooh (disliked). If the soil portion could be washed and one performed Salah with such clothing, then Salah will be makrooh (disliked). With regards to the dung of an herbivore animal, it is najasat-e- galeeza (higher form of impurity). If this kind of impurity soils ones clothing, then such a person’s Salah will be valid as long as it does not reach the size of a dirham. The size of a dirham would be the size of the inner palm of the hand. If it exceeds the size limit of one dirham then Salah will be invalid. However, it is best to remove the impurity or change ones clothing before praying Salah. And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
