Is it permissible to keep the name Asiyah Fatimah for a girl and Azim for a boy? What is the meaning of these names?

Question Detail:

Assalamu Alaikum mufti Sahab.is regarded as one among four greatest woman in islam. Can we name our daughter ASIYA. Can you please also tell us arabic meaning of the name. Can we name Azim if we are blessed with son.

Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
As Muslims, we try to name our children according to the names of the pious predecessors and the friends of Allah. Naming our children after the pious predecessors will inculcate a value system within them and preserve their identity as Muslims. 
The name of the wife of Firaun was Asiyah. She was from amongst the most noble and virtuous woman with high level of Iman and Taqwa. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala mentions regarding her in the Quran:
وَضَرَبَ اللَّهُ مَثَلًا لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا امْرَأَتَ فِرْعَوْنَ إِذْ قَالَتْ رَبِّ ابْنِ لِي عِنْدَكَ بَيْتًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَنَجِّنِي مِنْ فِرْعَوْنَ وَعَمَلِهِ وَنَجِّنِي مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ )القرآن 66:11(
“And Allah sets forth, as an example to those who believe the wife of Pharaoh: Behold she said: “O my Lord! Build for me, in nearness to Thee, a mansion in the Garden, and save me from Pharaoh and his doings, and save me from those that do wrong.” (Al-Quran: 66:11)
 
 
The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam has mentioned:
كَمَلَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ كَثِيرٌ، وَلَمْ يَكْمُلْ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ: إِلَّا آسِيَةُ امْرَأَةُ فِرْعَوْنَ....
“Many amongst men have attained high ranks (in piety). Unfortunately, women have not attained such rank except for Asiyah the wife of Firaoun…..” [1]  
 
Fatimah Radiallahu Ta’ala Anha was the beloved daughter of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam. The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam has mentioned regarding her.
فَاطِمَةُ سَيِّدَةُ نِسَاءِ أَهْلِ الجَنَّةِ
“Fatimah shall be the leaders of all the women in Jannah.” [2]
 
In another lengthy Hadith, it has been mentioned:
.....إِنَّ هَذَا مَلَكٌ لَمْ يَنْزِلِ الأَرْضَ قَطُّ قَبْلَ هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ اسْتَأْذَنَ رَبَّهُ أَنْ يُسَلِّمَ عَلَيَّ وَيُبَشِّرَنِي بِأَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ سَيِّدَةُ نِسَاءِ أَهْلِ الجَنَّةِ وَأَنَّ الحَسَنَ وَالحُسَيْنَ سَيِّدَا شَبَابِ أَهْلِ الجَنَّةِ
“…..Verily, this angel has never descended to earth prior to this night. It has sought the permission from its lord to convey salam to me and to give me glad tidings that Fatimah is the leader of all the women in Jannah. And that Hasan and Husain are the leaders of all the youngsters in Jannah.” [3]
 
The name Azeem is one of the 99 names of Allah. [4]
The meaning of the name Asiyah is: foundation, pillars or any item which may be used to stand a structure. [5]
