Question Summary: Is intercourse permissible towards the end of menses? Question Detail:
I know that sexual intercourse during menses in strictly prohibited in Islam. However I just wanted to know that my wife usually has seven days of cyclic period. Because of high sexual urge both of us meet physically. Is this permissible?
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. Your understanding that sexual intercourse is prohibited during menses is correct. This prohibition is explained in the Quran and Hadith. Allah Ta'ala says: {وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْمَحِيضِ قُلْ هُوَ أَذًى فَاعْتَزِلُوا النِّسَاءَ فِي الْمَحِيضِ وَلَا تَقْرَبُوهُنَّ حَتَّى يَطْهُرْنَ} [البقرة: 222] They ask you concerning menstruation. Say: that is an Adha (a harmful thing for a husband to have a sexual intercourse with his wife while she is having her menses), therefore keep away from women during menses and go not unto them till they are purified (from menses and have taken a bath). (Sura al-Baqarah, V.222) : Rasulallah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: من أتى حائضا أو امرأة في دبرها أو كاهنا فقد كقر بما أنزل على محمد (1/ 242) سنن الترمذي “Whoever engages in intercourse with his wife during menstruation or engages in anal intercourse with his wife or goes to a person who tells the future has indeed disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammed (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)”(Tirmizi 242/1) A husband may derive benefit from his wife during menses from the area above the navel and below the knees. The area between the navel to the knees is prohibited.
