Question Summary: Is gargling necessary in ghusl? Does leaning break one`s wudu? What is a dhaeef hadith? Question Detail:
1. Amongst the faraidh of ghusl are – passing water through the nostrils and rinsing the mouth. In the case of rinsing the mouth is it necessary to do gargling? Likewise while passing water through the nostrils, is it necessary to ensure that the water reaches deep inside the nose (i.e. it reaches upto the soft bone)? 2. Wudu breaks if the person falls asleep while taking the support of something or leaning on something. In this case will the wudu break if the person leans on his hands and falls asleep like many people in jumuah do? Also will the wudu break if a person rests his back on a wall/leans on a wall and falls asleep? 3. What is a dhaeef hadeeth? What is its ruling regarding issues of masail/fiqh and issues of virtues/fadhail? Can you please elaborate upon this?
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. 1) Gargling is not necessary in ghusl.[1] Rinsing the mouth fully is sufficient.[2] Likewise, in passing water through the nostrils,[3] it is sufficient for the water to reach the tip of the bone.[4] 2) The fundamental principle of one`s wudu being terminated when sleeping is the strong possibility of passing wind. For example, if one is leaning on an item, and that item is removed, the person topples over; there is a high possibility that he would have passed wind as he was asleep and had no control over himself. Accordingly, if one leans on the wall and falls asleep and his rear[5] from where one passes wind is above the ground, then his wudu will be terminated.[6] [7] If one falls asleep while leaning on his hands,[8] his wudu will be intact as that posture does not lead one to be out of control of himself and thereby passing wind. 3) The definitions of the various Ahādīth is an academic issue which requires a certain level of preliminary knowledge to understand. It is highly unlikely for a person to understand the details of the various types of Ahādīth without having any preliminary knowledge. Usool-e-Hadīth is generally taught in the final years of the Aalim course. A student is first equipped with approximately six years of knowledge before being explained the various angles and dimensions of hadith.[9] We therefore humbly excuse ourselves from burdening you with information which you may experience difficulty in understanding.
