Question Summary:
If i have divorced my wife once, and taken her back before the expiry of the iddah period. Will it still count as one talaaq?

Question Detail:

If i have divorced my wife once, and taken her back before the expiry of the iddah period. Will it still count as one talaaq? or since i have taken her back before her iddah period will it mean that there has been no talaaq between us? are there still three left for an irrevocable divorce or two?

Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
In principle, when a talaq-e-raj’i (revocable divorce) is issued, it can be revoked but it is not cancelled. Accordingly, if you issued your wife only one talaq-e-raj’i and you revoked the talaq within the iddat period, your nikah remains valid. However, your right of three divorces will be reduced to two divorces.
