Question Summary: How do I fix my stuttering problem? Question Detail:
Are Maryam Institute and Ilm essentials good programs to enroll in in order to learn more about the deen and how to live our daily lives? I just wanted to make sure that they wree in accordance with the Hanafi principles as I'm hanafi. Also, I've had a stuttering problem every since I was little and it seems to be getting worse. As I've come to an age where marriage proposals are coming, I'm becoming increasingly worried over the fact that people will not want to marry their sons to me because I have the issue. Do you have any duas or things I can do in order to help reduce my stuttering? I know about the three ayahs from Surah Taha that Prophet Musa Alayhisalaam read, but I don't know what else I can do. I don't want people to judge me just because I have a stuttering problem that becomes worse at some points in my life. Also, are you affiliated with Darul Ifta? I've sent e-mails to daruliftaa@alinaam.co.za asking them fiqh related questions and they gave me advice to "The ulama state that every morning after fajr Salaat one should take a pebble and place it on his her tongue and recite the above mentioned Quraanic aayat 21 times, inshaa Allah a person will be cured from this problem". Is this correct?
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. Upon reviewing the websites mentioned above, it was found that both websites offer courses in accordance with the Hanafi school of thought. Furthermore, they also offer courses regarding spiritual rectification (tasawwuf and tazkiyah) taught by murids (spiritual devotees) of Sheikh Zulfiqar Ahmad (may Allah bless him). As such, it will be of great benefit if you decide to enroll yourself in one of their Essential Ilm courses. In regards to your stuttering problem, it is important to understand that Allah Ta'ālā has created everyone differently, each with their own physical traits and characteristics. Although these individual differences make us stand out in front of people, they play no role in determining our status in the eyes of Allah Ta'ālā. Allah Ta'ālā says in the Holy Quran: إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ Surely the noblest of you, in Allah's sight, is the one who is most pious of you [Al-Quran, Surah al-Hujurat, 13] He further states in another ayah of the Quran: وَلَا تَتَمَنَّوْا مَا فَضَّلَ اللَّهُ بِهِ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ And do not covet something by which Allah has made some of you excel higher than others [Al-Quran, Surah an-Nisa, 32] Instead of focusing on such superficial things, indulge yourself in performing good deeds and elevating your status with Allah Ta'ālā. There are many in this world who have been deprived of much more than just a deficiency in articulation. The Holy Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: إِذَا نَظَرَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى مَنْ فُضِّلَ عَلَيْهِ فِي الْمَالِ وَالْخَلْقِ، فَلْيَنْظُرْ إِلَى مَنْ هُوَ أَسْفَلَ مِنْهُ If anyone of you looks at a person who was made superior to him in wealth and physical traits, then he should also look at the one who is less fortunate than him. [Sahih al-Bukhari, 6490, Chapter on looking at the one who is inferior to and not the superior] Once you have established your connection with Allah Ta'ālā himself, then all your concerns and worries will dissipate on their own for the challenges in this world are nothing more than a trial for us to overcome in order to ultimately reach our goal of gaining the pleasure of Allah the Al-Mighty. Reading the ayahs of Surah Taha every morning after Fajr has been recommended by prominent 'Ulama such as Maulana Ashraf 'Ali Thanvi (may Allah have mercy on him).[1] The concept of speaking, or in this case reciting Dua, with pebbles in one's mouth has been sanctioned by some in the past as a technique in helping one overcome the problems of stuttering.[2] This technique is primarily based on experience; therefore, your main focus should remain on reciting the ayahs of Sura Taha. We also advise you to stay busy in the recitation of the Quran for Allah Ta'ālā says in the Holy Quran: وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ And We reveal the Qur'an which is cure and mercy for the believers. [Al-Quran, Surah al-Isra, 82] The Holy Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) also said: وَالَّذِي يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ وَيَتَتَعْتَعُ فِيهِ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ شَاقٌّ لَهُ أَجْرَانِ And he who reads the Quran and falters (and stutters) in (reading) it, and finds it difficult for him, he will have a double reward. [Sahih Muslim, 798, Chapter Regarding the Excellence Of The One Who Is Proficient In The Qur'an And One Who Falters In It] May Allah Ta'ālā free you of your discomforts and grant you success in this life and the hereafter. Ameen. Please take note of our notice regarding Madrasah In'aamiyya: The Darul Iftaa has received queries regarding Mufti Ebrahim Desai Saheb’s teaching and affiliation with Madrassah In’aamiyya, Camperdown. The confusion is probably due to the previous Fatawaa and Google searches of Mufti Ebrahim Desai Saheb issued under the name of Darul Iftaa, Madrassah In’aamiyyah, Camperdown.
