Question Summary: How was the meat of the ram sacrificed by Ibrāhīm Alaihisalām distributed? Question Detail:
Hadhrat Ibrāhīm Alaihissalām had a bandage on his eyes when he was going to sacrifice his beloved son Hadhrat Ismāel Alaihissalām. Then Allāh sent Jibraīl Alaihissalām with a ram from Jannah. Then Ibrāhīm Alaihissalām sacrificed the ram. How was the meat of that ram distributed and who ate from that ram as it was a ram that came from Jannah?
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
The various tests Ibrāhīm Alaihissalām went through and his steadfastness in fulfilling each and every command of Allāh bears testimony to the deep-rooted Imān (conviction) in his heart. When the belief and connection with Allāh Taālā is strong, it becomes very easy to succeed in Allāh Taālā’s obedience. When Ibrāhīm Alaihissalām was preparing to sacrifice his son, Ismāīl Alaihissalām requested his father saying, “O my beloved father, do not sacrifice me whilst looking at me lest mercy may overtake you. Hence tie my hand to my neck and place me facing the ground”. In a Hadīth recorded by Imām Ahmed Rahimahullāh, Ismāīl Alaihissalam had on a white Qamīs (shirt) and requested Ibrāhim Alaihissalām with the following words, “I don’t have any cloth that can shroud my dead body other than this Qamīs so please remove this Qamīs from my body”. However, in so far as Ibrāhīm Alaihissalām’s eyes being covered with a band is concerned, we were unable to locate such a narration.
Furthermore, according to a narration of Ibn Abbās Radhiyallāhu Anhu, the ram that was sent as a replacement for Ismāīl Alaihissalām was grazing in Jannah for forty years. With regards to the ram’s horns, they were passed down from generation to generation until the era of Nabī Sallallāhu Alaihi Wa Sallam. The horns continued to be hung by the Ka’bah until a few years after the demise of Nabī Sallallāhu Alaihi Wa Sallam. In regards to the distribution of the ram’s meat, we were unable to locate any narration. And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best Mawlana Abdul Azeem bin Abdur Rahman,
