Question Detail:

Im a graphic designer. Is it permissble for me to make inanimate designs etc and then send it to another designer to add characters etc to it. I do guide her as to how to make the character pose etc but dont do any of the actual character making myself.
All of the merchandise we are working on is targetted towards children.

Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullahi wa-barakatuh.

1)     It is not permissible to design animate pictures and objects.

2)     It is permissible to design inanimate pictures and objects.[1]

3)     In principle, active and direct participation in any unlawful venture is impermissible. Allah Ta'ala says,

و لا تعاونوا على الإثم و العدوان(النساء:٢)

Do not assist one another in sin and transgression (Nisa: 2)

As a graphic designer, you do not participate actively and directly in animate designing, thus your work is permissible.

4)     It is not permissible to guide another designer in animate designing.
