Does my father have the right to stop me from observing the I’tikaaf Sunnah?

Question Detail:

I want to go for Aetikaf but my father is not allowing me with the excuse that i should be 25 years old and currently i am 17 years old, he do not want me to be Islamic, what should i do in this circumstances?

Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
 
It was the noble habit of Rasulullah (sallalahu alayhi wasallam) to sit for I’tikaaaf in the last ten days of Ramadhan. Sitting in I’tikaaf is therefore a Sunnah of Rasulullah (sallalahu alayhi wasallam).
We observe your zeal to sit for I’tikaaf and make Dua Allah make it possible for you to fulfil your wish to practise on this Sunnah.It is possible that your father’s refusal to you to perform I’tikaaf is based on some wisdom. A father knows his child and generally a father’s decision is motivated by love and interest for his child. It is your assumption that your father does want you be ‘Islamic’.
Alhamdulillah, Allah granted you a Muslim father and you are raised as a Muslim. While living with your father, you have a desire to practise on Sunnah and to be Islamic.
It may be an idea to get an influential person in the family or the local Alim, Ustaadh etc to intercede to your father on your behalf. If your father does not accept the intercession, then respect your father’s wishes. You could adopt other forms of Ibadah to get closer to Allah, for example, serve your parents and make their Khidmah.
