Question Summary: Cursing Allah and uttering the words of Kufr Question Detail:
When something bad happens to me I lose my temper and say very very bad things about Allah(SWT) like he is not merciful, he is cruel, and I also curse Allah (Naudhbillah). Do I become a Kafir on saying this? Are all my good deeds wasted by saying this? If I don't become a kafir, can I repent for these sayings?
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. It is an integral part of our Iman to have the greatest and deepest respect for Allah at all times. If a person shows any form of disrespect to Allah, that is against the dictates of Iman. The Fuqaha have stated that if a person attributes oppression to Allah or anything against the lofty position of Allah, that constitutes to Kufr. As such, he comes out of the fold of Islam. To state that Allah is cruel etc, could lead to Kufr. These statements are very dangerous. As a matter of precaution, you should renew your Iman as well as your Nikaah if you are married. In adverse conditions of life, one should remember that every good and bad is from Allah.[1] Sometimes, a person might believe something to be bad whereas there is good hidden in it. Allah mentions in the Quran: وَعَسَى أَنْ تَكْرَهُوا شَيْئًا وَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ وَعَسَى أَنْ تُحِبُّوا شَيْئًا وَهُوَ شَرٌّ لَكُمْ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ (القرآن: 2: 216) “And it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allah knows but you do not know.” (Al-Quran: 2:216) Furthermore, you should train yourself to control your anger. Attending anger management classes may be useful. Alternatively, you may penalize yourself the next time you utter such statements by giving Sadaqah (charity) in the name of Allah. The amount of money given should be realistic. Giving Sadaqah each time you utter such statements will prevent you from uttering statements of Kufr.[2] And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best Abdul Hannan Nizami, Student Darul Iftaa Chicago, USA Checked and Approved by, Mufti Ebrahim Desai.
