Can the wife work if the husband does not fulfil the wife’s necessity?

i want to know that if a husband doesnot provide for his wife properly and doesnot allow her to continue her studies(even if she covers herself properly before going out) or work(even from home)....is it permissible for her to do it wiyhout his permission to provide for herself n her baby.

Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is Farz for the husband to adequately provide basic needs of life for his wife and children. If he fails to do that, he will be guilty of negligence towards them.
In such an unfortunate situation, the wife should explore avenues to get her husband to fulfill his responsibility for example talk to him directly or to an influential person who could intervene and make the husband understand his responsibility and to fulfill it. If the husband is obstinate and is still negligent, then the wife may take from the wealth of the husband even without his permission. If this too is not possible, then she may work within her home without the permission of her husband in order to fulfill her needs. If this too is not possible, she may discuss this issue with her local Ulama body who will advise her accordingly. It is not permissible for the wife to work outside of her home without the husband’s permission.
