Question Summary:
Can a mother name her child on her own will and choice?

Question Detail:

I wanted to ask something related to keeping my child's name.
When I was pregnant I saw a dream keeping my son's name MOOSA (I saw such dream twice) and I so wanted to keep his name MOOSA but my in laws (parents in laws) didn't let me keep his name (instead made fun of it) and they selected the name theirselves. Please guide me with this that what athorities do a mother have to keep her child's name on her own will and choice. Now I feel that Shayaan (my son's name) doesn't suit him cuz he's very arrogant and shouts a lot and he's a hyper child too.

Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is normal for children to be hyper, naughty or to shout. Even though they may have the best of names.
Generally, all mothers face a similar change.
We understand your frustration as a mother coupled with the suspicion of the name of your child.
Shayaan as (shayaan-e-shaan) in urdu means compatible, suitable etc. The name is suitable. Furthermore, changing the name will not change the temperament of your child. He will remain as child and outgrow his childhood. Meanwhile, be patient and nurture your child and continuously make du’a for your child. Your patience and du’as will soon bear fruits.
