I wish to marry a revert. His name is ...... He has made the name change affidavit. His new name is Mohammed Aadil, (this is how we all call him). I m in india and there are many legal procedures we need to follow for name change. Just making an affidavit s not enough. So we are not considering to use the new name in any of the documents or for official purposes. 1. I wanted to know that which name should be used in Nikah(Anirudh or Mohammed Aadil). As the name is not changed officially, If we use Mohammed Aadil during nikah, is that nikah valid? . 2. Also for umrah, will the name change be required on passport or he can use the old passport? Because i am not sure about visa, whether he will get it using his non-islamic name
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. If a revert adopted an Islamic name and is called by his Islamic name, that is sufficient. If he is referred to his Islamic name in the nikah, the nikah will be valid. You may seek the guidance of a travel agent for umrah regarding the name requirement.
