Question Summary: Are the rulings of an azaan clock similar to the regular azaan? Question Detail:
My question is regarding clock Azan.what is the ruling regarding clock Azan. Is there a same ruling apply as the regular Azan because we live in USA NY. We don't not hear Mosque's Azan. We follow the clock Azan at home. Should we be quite while clock Azan happen or we can talk? Since we do not hear direct Azan from the mosque, is there a gunnah if we pray at home?
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. The Azaan clock is not an alternative or substitute for the azaan called out by a person for the daily prayers.[1] The azaan clock serves as a reminder and tazkeer for the prayers. If a person was to maintain silence throughout the duration of the azaan given out by an azaan clock, then this is an expression of respect for the name and remembrance of Allah Ta’ala. It is an emphasized sunnah (Sunnah Muakkadah), and according to many scholars, even wajib to perform Salah with congregation and jamaat.[2] A person will be sinful for not performing Salah with jamaat.[3] Furthermore, the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam mentioned in a Hadith: صَلَاةُ الْجَمَاعَةِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْفَذِّ بِسَبْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ دَرَجَةً Prayer said in a congregation is twenty-seven degrees more excellent than prayer said by a single person.[4] It is also mentioned: صَلَاةُ الْجَمَاعَةِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ صَلَاةِ أَحَدِكُمْ وَحْدَهُ بِخَمْسَةٍ وَعِشْرِينَ جُزْءًا Prayer said in a congregation is twenty-five degrees more excellent than prayer said by a single person.[5] Hence, the reward of Salah with jamaat and in the Masjid is also many folds more rewarding and virtuous.
