Question Summary: Are men allowed to wear platinum or palladium rings with diamonds? Question Detail:
Are men allowed to wear platinum or palladium rings with diamonds?
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. Gold, silver, platinum, and palladium are all various metals that are used to make jewelry. Platinum’s description is that it is silvery-white, lustrous, ductile, and malleable. Platinum is more ductile than gold, silver and copper, thus being the most ductile of pure metals, but gold is still more malleable than platinum. [1] Platinum is extremely long wearing and is very white, so it does not need to be rhodium plated like white gold does. Palladium is also a white metal which has a silver-grey-white color and is similar to platinum. [2] In terms of Sharīah, men are only allowed to wear silver rings that weigh less than one Mithqal (approximately 4.374 g). [3] Any other material or metal other than a silver ring is prohibited for men. Hence, it is not permissible for men to wear platinum or palladium rings.
