Question Summary: Advice on being a president of the youth gathering Question Detail:
I am 16 years of age. I myself and a few of the youth have started a youth group in our masjid to start to create unity amongst the youth. There's is an elder who participates in the discussions we have and he wants us to adopt responsibilities and for that he has put us as president, Vice President, senior advisor and so on. I don't think this should be the format for a youth group since we are only youth and we shouldn't make others feel that one person is a president of the group and the other is something else. I think it is better to have one person responsible as an Amir and do it this way. What do you think is this best way to put this group together and please give us suggestions for what kind of activities or things we can do as a youth group. The group has people from ages 13-18 in it.
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. There is a saying – The world of today is an expression of the youth of yesterday and the world of tomorrow is an expression of the youth of today. It is therefore encouraging to note your efforts in the youth. We advise you seek guidance from the senior Ulama of your locality and work under their guidance.
