Question Summary: ADHD related problems Question Detail:
I would like to know what Islam says about People with ADHD. I don't know if there is anything specific but any amount of knowledge will be greatly appreciated. I have ADHD and It is extremely difficult to do any of my daily duties, including prayers, studies, meeting and talking to people. I cannot step out of my comfort zone and I can only do whatever I feel interested in. It is really complicated to explain but I am trying to fight myself every single day. Failing is not very uncommon in people with ADHD and so I want to know if my failures in terms of salah, failing to obey parents, and other tasks I find impossible to do will be forgiven?
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. Brother-in-Islam We sympathise with and make du’a Allāh grant you complete cure. Both good health and illness are bounties from Allāh and are also tests from Allāh. A healthy person enjoys the good health which is a great bounty of Allāh. Similarly, an ill person also experiences the bounty of illness, which wipes away his minor sins, raises his status in Jannah and grants a person the opportunity of exercising Sabr (patience). Just as an ill person is undergoing a physical test, a healthy person is also undergoing a psychological test. A healthy person is tested with regards to his Shukr (gratitude) to Allāh, whilst an ill person is tested in his Sabr (patience). Hadhrat Ayyūb Alayhis Salām was afflicted with a severe illness as a test from Allāh. He exercised great patience and endured the illness without complaint. He would beseech Allāh with the following words: ياَ اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحْمِيْنَ Transliteration: Yā Arham-ar-Rāhimīn Translation: O the Most-Merciful of the merciful ones. Through this supplication, Allāh alleviated his illness. Therefore, we advise that you constantly supplicate to Allāh with these words with great hope in the mercy of Allāh. In such a trying condition too, your concern for carrying out your religious duties and obligations is truly commendable. This is a sign of your commitment towards Allāh. May Allāh accept your commitment and grant you the strength to carry out all the obligations of Shari’ah. As far as your Salāh and other obligations are concerned, you should employ all means within your capacity to help you carry out these obligations timeously. After trying your best, if you are unable to do so, then In-Sha-Allāh Allāh will not take you to account. However, try and make Qadhā (make up) when you are feeling better for the Salāhs that you miss out. Constantly make du’ā to Allāh to alleviate your present condition. Also, take the help of specialised medical personnel in trying to overcome this problem.
