Question Summary:
1) Travelling for medical training. 2) Using interest money.

Question Detail:

I am a medical college student (female), there’s a student exchange program AEISEC offers to my university, in which whoever is selected can go to abroad- visa friendly countries like Turkey, Egypt etc etc and is also given a certain task (medical study related) probably working on HIV patients or Hepatitis patients. The trip is for two months.
I really wanted to know
i) Will I be allowed to undertake such a  journey? My second question is to know the ruling for the money which is FIXED in banks i.e. if we are able to save 1Lac for a certain period of time Our bank will return 5lac or more. My parents have told me that that this money will either be spent on my marriage or my post graduation or probably on the above mentioned trip (if its permissible). And this disturbs me a lot because apparently that money is not halaal. So can it be spent in above mentioned three conditions. If no , what should be done then with that money?
How can avoid using that money? 

Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
1)     Allāh Ta’ālā states in the Holy Qurān:
وَقَرْنَ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ
And remain in your homes. (Quran 33: 33)
From this verse, it is understood that the temperament of Sharīah is that a female should confine herself to her home. In this age of shamelessness, the reason for women being in their homes is more understandable. Leaving the home due to need and necessity is prescribed with the condition of hijab.
You have already started medical studies and it seems in the near future, you are required to undergo practical training in hospitals. Whilst we understand that your desire to travel overseas may be to gain better experience and a good training record, you will compromise the ruling of Sharī’ah in doing so.
It is not permissible for a woman to travel a distance of 78 km or more without a Mahram (a male who she is not permitted to marry in Sharī’ah). Hence, any such journey that you wish to undertake, will not be permissible without a Mahram.[1] This injunction of Shari’ah is deduced from a Hadith.
We advise that you undergo your practical training in a local hospital in your locality and observe the laws of Hijaab to the best of your ability.
 
2)     Any money received by a person which is over and above the money deposited in the bank is Riba (interest). Such money is Haraam and one may not derive any benefit from it whatsoever. All such money should be given away as charity without the intention of reward.[2]
