Question Summary: Meaning of the name ‘Wahdan’ Question Detail:
I was looking up names for my newborn baby boy and came across the name Wahdan. (meaning shows up as peerless, unique and singular). One of our good friends suggested that names like Ahad, Wahid, Wahdan should not kept for babies as only Allah Swt is deserving of those names and not humans. Your help and clarification would be really appreciated.
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. Ahad refers to the number one. Wahid also means one. Wahdan means alone. While Allah is One and Allah has no partner, in general these words are not specific to Allah. A human being can be referred to as one in number or as one in being alone. It is permissible to keep these names for a child. However, it is advisable to keep names of prophets and pious people.[1] And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best Immad Bin Arshad Student Darul Iftaa California, USA Checked and Approved by, Mufti Ebrahim Desai. www.daruliftaa.net
