My parent had a niyyath of naming the child as Tameem after the name of the shahaba Tameemul Ansari . we went to Kovalam durgah and my parents made of niyyath of naming the child as Tameem. We have named the first son with my fathers name as Abdul Kader and second child as Mohamed Tameem. My wife want to add another name as Arshad for second child as Mohamed Arshad tameem. But my parents had the niyyath of naming the child as Mohamed tameem and not to add any other name apart from Mohamed Tameem. Here is my question, we have already did the naming of the second child as Mohamed Tameem. Now i need to take birth certificate , my wife is insisting on Mohamed Arshad Tameem. My parents insisting on Mohamed tameem. I dont know what to do. I want to oblidge to my parents but at teh same time wife is also very much pressurising on this subject. Please give me some advise on this.
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. Being blessed with a newborn baby is indeed a great blessing of Allah Ta'ala. It is a joyous occasion, and a chance for the family to get together and rejoice over the blessing that Allah Ta'ala has granted them. In principal, it is the parents (you and your wife's) right to name the child and not the right of the grandparents. If the parents of the child permit the grandparents to name the child, then that is considered a good gesture on their behalf. If the child is already named Muhammad Tameem, now it is a matter of registering the name of the child on the birth certificate. We advise you to register the child as Muhammad Arshad Tameem. Your parents should be made to understand the sensitivity of your wife being the mother of the child and her rights in naming the child. She has already accommodated them in naming the child. They should not interfere in registering the child as she wants. May Allah Ta'ala make your children the coolness of your eyes, and use them for the khidmat of deen. Ameen!
