Question Summary:
Is it permissible to act on behalf of defendants for personal injury and obtain compensation where the money comes from insurance companies?

Question Detail:

I am a personal injury Solicitor. Is it permissible to obtain compensation for clients in personal injury cases where the compensation comes from insurance companies? Also, is it permissible to defend cases on behalf of Defendants? In these cases the money for defending the claims comes from insurance companies.

Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
As a personal injury solicitor, you provide services to your clients by claiming a right due to your clients or by defending a claim against your clients.
If the right you are claiming for or the case you are defending on behalf of your client is valid and in conformity to Shariah, then your services is Shariah Compliant and the legal service fee and remuneration will be Halaal.
The client contracting with the insurance company is not Shariah Compliant. However, that is his wrongful deed for which you are not responsible.
