Question Summary:
Do I have to renew possession of goods not required by the organisation for which I was assigned to buy?

Question Detail:

Zaid and Amr work for an organisation. Zaid, who is the head of the organisation, appoints Amr to buy certain items for the organisation. Amr buys the goods for the organisation with his own money, with the intention of claiming the money later. Before he can hand it over to Zaid, Zaid tells Amr that the organisation no longer needs the goods. Therefore Amr says that he will keep the goods for himself.  Is this valid?  Is there a need for Amr to hand the goods to Zaid and then take it for himself?

Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It would be permissible for Amr to keep the goods for himself; there is no need to renew possession of the goods.[1]
