Question Summary: Is it permissible for a home-owner to accept money acquired by purchasers through mortgage? Question Detail:
I buy land on cash and build houses on it fully cash, no mortgage, and then sell these houses in market, people who buy these houses take loan from bank and pay me in full. my buyers take mortgage but i do not, is this still haram for me?
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. It is not permissible for a purchaser to obtain an interest bearing loan. However, if the purchaser paid you with such a loan, that money will be permissible for you if you were not a party to securing the loan for the purchaser. The sin for taking the interest bearing loan will be upon the purchaser.[1] If you have Muslim purchasers that are involved in interest bearing transactions, you should advise them to abstain.
