Did The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam Offer The Sunnahs Of Fajr In A Sitting Position? Question Detail:
I heard that the Prophet Sallalallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam used to offer two Rakahs Sunnah before Fajr prayer in sitting position. Is it true? If it is true, can I offer daily in sitting position?
If a person decides a Surah (to be recited in namaz) before offering Farz/Nafl prayer either as single or Imam is allowed? For example, he thinks while in Zuhr prayer he will recite Surah Alam Tara Kaifa before he starts.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It was the noble habit of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam that he would continuously be engaged in Salah and Ibadah throughout the entire night. The Ahadith which mentions that the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam used to perform 2 Rakahs in sitting position is not referring to the two Sunnahs before Fajr. The Hadith actually refers to the last two Rakahs of Nafl/Tahajjud Salah which the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam used to perform in a sitting position before the time of Fajr would commence. It is Makrooh (disliked) to pre-determine a Surah which one wishes to recite in Salah prior to commencing the Salah. However, if the Surahs are of such a nature which the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam used to recite regularly in Salah, it will not be Makrooh to pre-determine such Surahs prior to commencing the Salah. Furthermore, if you are offering your Salah behind the Imam, it is not permissible for you to recite anything in Salah behind the Imam regardless whether the Salah is Jahri (audible) or Sirri (non-audible). [3]
Jahri Salahs are; Fajr, Maghrib and Isha
Sirri Salahs are; Zuhr and Asr

عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، " أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً، كَانَ يُصَلِّي ثَمَانِيَ رَكَعَاتٍ، وَيُوتِرُ بِرَكْعَةٍ، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي - قَالَ مُسْلِمٌ [ص:40]: بَعْدَ الْوِتْرِ، ثُمَّ اتَّفَقَا - رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَهُوَ قَاعِدٌ، فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْكَعَ، قَامَ فَرَكَعَ، وَيُصَلِّي بَيْنَ أَذَانِ الْفَجْرِ وَالْإِقَامَةِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ " (سنن أبي داود، ج2ص39، المكتبة العصرية)
[2] "و" يكره "تعيين سورة" غير الفاتحة لأنها متعينة وجوبا وكذا المسنون المعين وهذا بحيث "لا يقرأ غيرها" لما فيه من هجر الباقي "إلا ليسر عليه أو تبركا بقراءة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم" فلا يكره ويستحب اقتداؤه بقراءة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كالسجدة وهل أتى بفجر الجمعة أحيانا (حاشية الطحطاوي على مراقي الفلاح شرح نور الإيضاح، ص363، دار الكتب العلمية)

بِأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا صَرَّحَ فِي كُتُبِهِ بِعَدَمِ الْقِرَاءَةِ خَلْفَ الْإِمَامِ فِيمَا يَجْهَرُ فِيهِ وَفِيمَا لَا يَجْهَرُ فِيهِ قَالَ وَبِهِ نَأْخُذُ وَهُوَ قَوْلُ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ وَيُجَابُ عَنْهُ بِأَنَّ صَاحِبَ الْهِدَايَةِ لَمْ يَجْزِمْ بِأَنَّهُ قَوْلُ مُحَمَّدٍ بَلْ ظَاهِرُهُ أَنَّهَا رِوَايَةٌ ضَعِيفَةٌ، وَفِي فَتْحِ الْقَدِيرِ وَالْحَقُّ أَنَّ قَوْلَ مُحَمَّدٍ كَقَوْلِهِمَا، وَالْمُرَادُ مِنْ الْكَرَاهَةِ كَرَاهَةُ التَّحْرِيمِ، وَفِي بَعْضِ الْعِبَارَاتِ أَنَّهَا لَا تَحِلُّ خَلْفَهُ (البحر الرائق، ج1ص363، دار الكتاب الإسلامي)
