As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa-raḥmatullāhi wa-barakātuh
Benzyl benzoate is of plant origin. Its usage is permissible for external application as well as for consumption.
If one becomes aware of any impermissible ingredient in a product related to external application, one should not use such a product.[1]

[1] قَالَ (وَيَتَوَضَّأُ الرَّجُلُ مِنْ الْحَوْضِ الَّذِي يَخَافُ أَنْ يَكُونَ فِيهِ قَذَرٌ، وَلَا يَسْتَيْقِنُهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ عَنْهُ) ؛ لِأَنَّ الْأَصْلَ فِي الْمَاءِ الطَّهَارَةُ فَعَلَيْهِ التَّمَسُّكُ بِهِ حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُ غَيْرُهُ، وَخَوْفُهُ بِنَاءً عَلَى الظَّنِّ، وَالظَّنُّ لَا يُغْنِي مِنْ الْحَقِّ شَيْئًا، وَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ عَنْهُ؛ لِأَنَّ السُّؤَالَ لِلْحَاجَةِ عِنْدَ عَدَمِ الدَّلِيلِ، وَأَصْلُ الطَّهَارَةِ دَلِيلٌ مُطْلِقٌ لَهُ الِاسْتِعْمَالَ فَلَا حَاجَةَ إلَى السُّؤَالِ. وَيَجُوزُ لِلرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَتَوَضَّأَ من الْحَوْضِ الذي يَخَافُ أَنْ يَكُونَ فيه قَذَرٌ وَلَا يَتَيَقَّنُ بِهِ وَلَيْسَ عليه أَنْ يَسْأَلَ عنه وَلَا يَدَعُ التَّوَضُّؤَ منه حتى يَتَيَقَّنَ أَنَّ فيه قَذَرًا لِلْأَثَرِ هَكَذَا في الْمُحِيطِ. (الفتاوى الهندية، دار الفكر (1/ 25))
