Question Summary:
Tahiyyatul Wudhu

Question Detail:

I have heard a great bounty for those who regularly say the prayer after ablution. The reward was so excit8ng, but I don't remember it now. I can't find it anywhere after searching also. Can you please tell me what that reward was..

Answer :

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

Your zeal to do virtuous deeds is commendable. You refer to prayer after ablution. There are two possibilities to prayer after ablution: du’aa after wudhu and voluntary salaah after wudhu.

In regards to du’aa after wudhu: Rasulullaah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said,

Translation: “Whoever performs wudhu in an excellent manner and thereafter says (the following), all eight doors of Jannah will be opened for him; he can enter (Jannah) through whichever door he wishes.” (Tirmidhi 55)

The du’aa is as follows:

Translation: I bear witness that is none worthy of worship except Allaah alone; there are no partners for Him. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and (final) Messenger. O Allaah! Make me from amongst the repentant, and make me from amongst those who purify themselves.

In regards to the voluntary salaah after wudhu, also referred to as Tahiyyatul Wudhu, Rasulullaah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said,

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (Radhiyallaahu ‘anh) narrates that the Prophet (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) once said to Sayyiduna Bilaal (Radhiyallaahu ‘anh) at the time of Salaatul Fajr, “O Bilaal, inform me of that action which you offered after accepting Islaam, which you hope the most reward from; for indeed, I heard your footsteps in front of me in Jannah.” Sayyiduna Bilaal (Radhiyallaahu ‘anh) replied, “The most hopeful of my deeds is that whenever I enter the state of ritual purity (wudhu or ghusl), be it any moment of the night or day, I pray with that purity whatever has been destined for me to pray.” (Bukhaari 1147)

Sayyiduna ‘Uthmaan (Radhiyallaahu ‘anh) once performed wudhu in the presence of an audience in which he washed each limb thrice and then said, “Rasulullaah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam), ‘Whoever performs wudhu similar to the wudhu I just performed and thereafter offers two rak’ahs in which he does not think (of any worldly matters), his sins will be forgiven.’” (Bukhaari 161)

Sayyiduna ‘Uthmaan (Radhiyallaahu ‘anh) narrated that he heard the Prophet (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) saying, “Whoever performs wudhu in a beautiful manner and thereafter offers salaah, his sins which he commits between it and the following salaah will be forgiven.” (Bukhaari 162)

One should endeavor to engage in both, the du’aa and the salaah after performing wudhu.

And Allaah Ta’aala Knows Best.
