Assalamu Alaykum,
I wanted to know if using the title of 'Fifty shades of Islam' or 'Fifty shades of Hadeeth' are suitable. The reason I ask is that 'Fifty shades of' originates from the book called 'Fifty shades of Grey' which is a Western book about some obscene things some of the characters in the book do. The book has become popular and the 'Fifty shades of' part is used by other people now to give titles to other things such as 'Fifty shades of Train' etc...

Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
At the outset it is incorrect to refer to Islamic teachings as shades and more so as grey. Shades and grey implies a doubt and uncertainty. All fundamental aspects of Islam are pure and clear. Likewise, the Qur’aan and authentic Ahadith are also pure and clear.
Rasulullah Sallalhu Alayhi Wasalam said,
لَقَدْ جِئْتُكُمْ بِهَا بَيْضَاءَ نَقِيَّةً
I have brought you a (deen) which pure and clear. (Musnad Ahmed)
 
When Rasulullah Sallalahu Alayhi Wasallam referred to Islam as pure and clear, it is incorrect to refer to anything about Islam as shades.
Furthermore, fifty Shades of Grey is an erotic romance novel. It is not appropriate to name a book about Islam or hadith or any Islamic science by borrowing part of a title of an obscene book. The connotation that is connected with such a title would render it repugnant and abhorrent to use with the title of an Islamic book. It is improper to use such a title for the pure and moral teachings of Islam.

 حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُجَالِدٌ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِكِتَابٍ أَصَابَهُ مِنْ بَعْضِ أَهْلِ الْكُتُبِ، فَقَرَأَهُ عَلَى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَغَضِبَ وَقَالَ: «أَمُتَهَوِّكُونَ فِيهَا يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَقَدْ جِئْتُكُمْ بِهَا بَيْضَاءَ نَقِيَّةً، لَا تَسْأَلُوهُمْ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَيُخْبِرُوكُمْ بِحَقٍّ فَتُكَذِّبُوا بِهِ، أَوْ بِبَاطِلٍ فَتُصَدِّقُوا بِهِ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْ أَنَّ مُوسَى كَانَ حَيًّا، مَا وَسِعَهُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَتَّبِعَنِي»
