Assalaamu Alaykum wwb my beloved and respected scholars, Is wearing the Lunghi from the sunnah? Is there any prohibition on letting children play outdoors after Asr or Maghrib? JazākAllāh khayran and humble request for duās.
Answer :
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh. 1) Wearing the lunghi is a Sunnah of Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم).[1] 2) Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) advised to keep children indoors close to sunset to protect them from evil spirits (Jinn). Take note of the following Hadith, «إِذَا كَانَ جُنْحُ اللَّيْلِ، أَوْ أَمْسَيْتُمْ، فَكُفُّوا صِبْيَانَكُمْ، فَإِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ تَنْتَشِرُ حِينَئِذٍ، فَإِذَا ذَهَبَتْ سَاعَةٌ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَخَلُّوهُمْ، وَأَغْلِقُوا الأَبْوَابَ وَاذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ، فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لاَ يَفْتَحُ بَابًا مُغْلَقًا» “When the darkness of the night envelops – or it becomes nightfall – withhold your children (from going outside). Verily, the evil jinn (devils) spread out at this time. Then, when part of the night has passed, allow them to go. And lock the doors, whilst mentioning Allah’s name. Verily, the devil cannot open a locked door.”[2] And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best Saad Haque Student Darul Iftaa New Jersey, USA Checked and Approved by, Mufti Ebrahim Desai.
