Question Summary:
Jawaaz for programmes on the 27th night of Rajab

Question Detail:

Assalaamu Alaikum
My question is regards with your answer below giving jawaaz for programmes on the 27th night of Rajab. The hawala used was Fatawa Mahmoodiyyah. That specific hawala proves adme jawaaz.
Refer also to question in Fatawa Mahmoodiyyah Pg 433/Volume 5 (Maktabah mahmoodiyyah edition) which shows adme jawaaz
By giving a jawaab of jawaaz and using hawala of Fatawa Mahmoodiyyah gives the impression that jawaaz is also given in that kitaab which is misleading.
Kindly comment whether  this was done in error ?
Your answer below :
A common belief is that the Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi Wasallam) ascended to the heavens on the 27th night of Rajab. Even thought there are a few narrations that confirm this view there are other narrations that relate other dates. There is no clear evidence on which night or month the Merajactually took place. Al-Zurqani (Rahmatullah Alayh) has mentioned five different opinions on the months in which the Meraj took place; Rabi-ul-Awal, Rabi-ul-Akhir, Rajab, Ramadan, and Shawwal. Allama Abdul-Haq Muhadith Dehlawi (Rahmatullah Alayhi) goes on to mention that most of the scholars are of the view that Meraj took place in either Ramadan or Rabi-ul-Awal.The fact that there is no specific date mentioned shows us that there was no special merit in doing special acts of worship specifically on the night of Meraj. Had there been any special merit then surely the companions of the Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi Wasallam) would have surely recorded it. The companions of the Prophet (SalAllahu Alayhi Wasallam) preserved every aspect of the life of our beloved Prophet (SalAllahu Alayhi Wasallam). Surely, they would not have left out any special practice or worship that was to be done on this night. However, any confirmed ibadaat (worships) that are advised in other nights such as salah, reading the Quran, dhikr, etc. should be done without the belief that it has more merit on this night. Finally, to give talks in the masjid in order to forbid from evil and to invite towards good is not only recommended but rather a deed that deserves reward. On this night it is common for people to gather in masajid in large numbers, therefore, Ullama take this as an opportunity to inform and educate the people about this night.   (Fatawa Mahmoodiya, 3/ 283-285, Farooqiyah)(Islamic Months, 49-63, Ma’arif)And Allah knows bestWassalaamu `alaykumMl. Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
We take note of your confusion and misinterpretation of our fatwa.
In Fatawa Mahmudiyyah; Vol. 3 Pg. 283-285 published by Maktaba Faruqiyya the following appears:
(ج) نفس وعظ، امر بالمعروف ونھی عن المنکرکیلئے جمع کرنا شرعا درست ہے اور اس شب کو اس کے لئے مخصوص کرنا بے دلیل ہے،
This is exactly what we have written. Consider the following excerpt:
Finally, to give talks in the masjid in order to forbid from evil and to invite towards good is not only recommended but rather a deed that deserves reward.”
We did not mention any specification that the talk be on the 27th. The subsequent sentence does not also prove jawaaz, rather what’s mentioned is that since people do gather on such nights, the opportunity is exploited by Ulama to educate with regards to the false notions they have regarding the night as also indicated in the previous paragraph. Consider the following excerpts:
“There is no clear evidence on which night or month the Me’raj actually took place.”
“The fact that there is no specific date mentioned shows us that there was no special merit in doing special acts of worship specifically on the night of Me’raj.”
“Surely, they would not have left out any special practice or worship that was to be done on this night.”
“However, any confirmed ibadaat (worships) that are advised in other nights such as salah, reading the Quran, dhikr, etc. should be done without the belief that it has more merit on this night.”
