Can I read the Holy Quran on the train when travelling to and from work?

Answer :

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykumwa-rahmatullāhiwa-barakātuh.
It is permissible and in fact commendable to recite the Quran in the train while traveling to and from work.
However, bear in mind if you recite from the Quran than you have to be in the state of wudhu to hold the Quran. It is not necessary to be in the state of wudhu if you recite through memory without holding the Quran. (1)

(1)كذا الوضوء فرض ( لمس القرآن ولو آية ) مكتوبة على درهم أو حائط لقوله تعالى: {لا يمسه إلا المطهرون} وسواء الكتابة والبياض ، وقال بعض مشائخنا: إنما يكره للمحدث مس الموضع المكتوب دون الحواشي لأنه لم يمس القرآن حقيقة والصحيح إن مسها كمس المكتوب ، ولو بالفارسية يحرم مسه اتفاقا على الصحيح ( مراقي الفلاح: ص 82 دار الكتب العلمية )
